Professor for Medical Radiation Physics and Oncotechnology at the Medical University of Vienna

I am Dietmar Georg, Professor for Medical Radiation Physics and Oncotechnology at the Medical University of Vienna. At the Department of Radiation Oncology I am heading the Division of Medical Radiation Physics and with my team I am responsible for research, teaching and clinics. Within PAIR, I am acting as the coordinator and supervise medical physics oriented research including teaching. The research field of ion beam therapy fascinates me since my physics study. From 2000 on I had the pleasure to gain research experience and clinical insights through various international and national ion beam research project. Since 2015 my research group performs basic and translational research with protons and Carbon ions at the Ion Beam Therapy Center MedAustron.

PAIR provides an excellent platform for truly interdisciplinary research and training of researchers as it links physics, cancer biology, and bioinformatics. Our methodological developments and research outcome will contribute to better understand the relationship between cellular responses and imaging biomarkers associated with dose and linear energy transfer. I truly believe that PAIR with its unique setting across scientific disciplines will make a major impact on medical radiation research in particle therapy.
